Hello Party Season!

So, tis the season... for cute party clothes!
I mean, between birthdays, Christmas, and New Years, some fabulousness is called for I believe.

Let us start with the basic peices and then funkify them.

Sooo Not A Faerie Princess

Some of these parties will be laid back gatherings of friends and family, or even slouchy sleepovers. But for those nights when you're supposed to look a little more refined, the classic cocktail dress has you covered.

Some cute options:

For the slightly more conservative girl (especially with a tiny waist and wider hips,) this adorable dress is very flattering. The empire waistline (with those amazing buttons!) cinches the smallest part of the body while the A-line skirt flutters away from the hips. And, as the basic LBD, it can take you from a more fun and wild party to a more reserved atmophere (grandparent's house, anyone?)

For the more eclectic lady (ahem, ME) this cute Shezabella strapless number in a lumberjack-like plaid is the way to go. Again, the empire waist is flattering alons with the A-line skirt, and if you're self-concious about your arms or it's quite cold outside then you can throw on a cozy knit cardigan for family affairs or a cute cropped jacket in a luxurious fabric (think satin, to contrast the cozyness of the plaid) for a dressier vibe.

This bright yellow Nina Ricci dress is a faaaabulous way to make a statement but still look very girly and appropriate. But beware of pairing this with more yellow- read: gold. Go instead for either neutral acessories (a slate grey jacket as opposed to black is very fresh) or more bright colors, either in the same family (red) or contrasting (blue, purple, green.)

So You're A Skirt Girl...

If a dress is overdoing it, then go with something that can be equally as fancy or can be very casual according to your needs. Introducing... the skirt!

If you're a classic girl with a sophisticated sense of style (and some killer hips), this Soda Blu skirt is the skirt for you. You can either tuck in a femenine blouse (go for a cute short-sleeved satin number in a fun pattern or bright/rich solid color) or top it with something a little unexpected (like a men's white shirt and a blazer with funky stripes) or something VERY unexpected (a t-shirt and track jacket.)

Although you have to be on the slimmer side to rock this style, bubble skirts are very, very cute and girly. (The curvy-girl's version? An A-line, of course!) A pair of pointy-toed flats make your legs look even longer with this skirt without being painful to walk in. Add something ultrafemenine, like a sequined tank or floral-print blouse, and wrap yourself up in a warm, trim peacoat to maintain the girly mood. If you're more into contrast, try a polo shirt and boyscout jacket, a plaid vest, or a big tuxedo jacket and start yelling "Taxi!"

For the more slouchy and bohemian of us, this comfy jersy skirt by American Apparel is a good idea for the holidays. Long enough to be demure but floaty enough to look sexy when you dance, it's the best of both worlds and can even transition into your daily life. Dress it up with heels, a blouse, and a trim jacket or down with a cute t-shirt and a nice big scarf.

But I Wear The Pants In This Relationship

Really not a skirt or dress kind of girl? Alright then, picky, let's get you some fabulous trousers!

Nothing says a funky partygoer like some crazy-colored jeans. These are by American Apparel and come in purple and grey, but Urban Outfitters also offers a range of hues (think turquiose, banana, and fire-engine red.) Pair with a soft bluse with a contrasting print (red pants and blue houndstooth or yellow pants and a purple paisley) or top it with neutrals (navy, but NOT denim, is a good way to go, and of course the standard black.) Or, to get SUPER funky, buy a jacket in the same color and pair it with all kinds of patterned accessories like plaid scarves, polka-dotted shirts, and argile socks.

Let us not forget the fashion and fuction of some really nice trousers. They can handle a fancy dinner with your mom's clients (I'm tihnking along with a purple satin shirt and a cardigan or a peacoat) or your next job interview (gotta make that cash before Christmas!) Pair with heels to make your legs look super long.

Man, all of these clothes have got me excited about some parties in my future...

Later loves!

I'm so sorry you guys!

Okay, okay, I said I'd be back and then I dissapeared. I apologize, but for quite a long time there I simply couldn't log in, it just kept redirecting me to the homepage. Go figure :/
So, I was NOT being lazy! I was having technical difficulties! =]

Onwards and Upwards people...

The fashion item I am struggling to live without?

SUSPENDERS.

But, you know what else is cute?

SUSPENDER SHIRTS!

Admit it, you think it's ADORABLE.

I've been examining my mother's sense of fashion (back when she sort of had one, but she'd be the first to say she doesn't care at all about clothes) and I have been gravitation towards the tomboy or androgynous look lately.

My personal favorite androgynous actress?

Tilda Swinton!
Certainly her blonde-curls and all-white asexual getup in Constantine was her best look, ever.
Something about a woman who isn't afraid to possibly look like a man... is admirable to say the least!

Then again, on the other side of the spectrum...
A woman who flaunts the fact that she is a woman is hot too! (and I don't mean a girly-girl.)

Who didn't love Bridgette Bardot?

Guys seem to loooove the big, gorgeous, womanly hair like J. Lo's(haha, I'm SO growing mine back...)

I love Eva Mendes! She's clearly a very strong woman, and very confident.

But, what's a poor (non famous) girl to do?
How can lil ole me rock the girl-meets-boy look every day?
Or glamourize herself for school?

Throw one of these babies on top of some jeans and a trim peacoat and instantly get the asexual look going.

Get the best of both worlds by paring a trim, masculine trousers with a white fluttery blouse. If you want to look a little less dressy, throw on a cozy knit cardigan and leave the heels in your closet.

Glamour can stay tame enough for first period (ooh Biology, I hate thee so.) Dap the lipstick on your lips softly with a lip brush, and if even THAT is too bright, kiss a napkin. Top with lip blam and then use some good mascara (Covergirl Lashblast is a gift from God) and you're good to go.

An appropriate shirt dress can also lend you womanly cuves. Pair with volumized curly locks and you're like Eva on her days off.

Pair boyfriend jeans with your favorite soft tee (or, you know, just steal your boyfriend's jeans.) Pair with purposefully messy hair and colorful sneakers for an I-don't-really-give-a-crap-but-I-still-look-cute vibe. Not original enough for you? Top with a furry hunter's hat or a plaid scarf. Or both.

That's all the yapping I have time for today folks. Sorry again about my extensive absence, and I'm glad to be back!

Winter is Coming

I am soo far beyond excited about this winter. I want snow, loads of it, on Christmas. I was tons of sub-zero weather so I can pile on all the cute coats, shirts, scarves, leggings, jackets and mittens that I own. I want layering, I want a return to a climate where it is impossible to be a skank- because if much skin shows it'll turn blue!

I am a winter person, but what really makes winter for me (besides my birthday, Christmas, and the anticipation of precipitation) is the COATS!

Let's lok at some awesome ones... starting of course with Target.

Libertine Navy Trench, clearance $27.99
The white buttons make this the perfect trench, ever. I don't even LIKE trench coats!

Plum bubble-shirt Trench, online only $69.99
Purple. Belt. Bubble Skirt. Awesome.

Merona French Cream Peacoat, $24.99
Peacoats are pretty essential for anyone who wants to be warm and look professional. A white one just kick the classy up another notch.

On to Burberry, where all you filthy rich spoiled brats can purchase wonderful quilted jackets. (kidding...)

Quilted Cape, $495
I love capes, but I can't wear them without looking terribly 1800's fox-hunter...
But this one is so beautiful, I just had to put it up!

White Quilted Double-Breasted Coat, $595
This is my ideal coat shape, with large beautiful black buttons and luxurious white quilted material. After that I'm pretty speechless...

Belted Quilted Tan Crowhurst, $445
Ugh. I want to win the lottery.

Slate Quilted Puffer (Failford), $495
The most non-bulky, femenine, fancy puffer jacket in history- in the color of the season, GREY!

Tweed Plaid Trench, $1495
The trademark Burberry plaid in a gorgeously proportioned coat, for the fierce ladies out there who can pull this off.

Cream Funnel-Neck Coat, $1095
If it were red it would be too much Devil May Cry, but the cream makes this the essential for any classy woman, young or old.

Now let's look at a couple of beauts from DKNY...

Double-Breasted Tweed Coat, $425
Gotta love the shape and nubby texture.

Classic Two-Button, $345
As it says, a classic done beautifully. If you have a job, interview or FBA meet, you need something a lot like this with some matching long straight-leg pants.

'Fraid that's all I have time for today... see you later cats.
